BICEP is a project founded on the belief that education should be free and accessible to all. This is based on a long history of self-organised community education. We provide a platform for learning, discussion and debate open to everyone. It is a space created by the community for sharing knowledge and critical, original and radical exploration of ideas.
Emancipatory education does not need to be granted by the state or the system but by ourselves, as a group of equals. It is not something given but something we take, establish and occupy.
We are committed to radical equality, standing against oppression and questioning power. BICEP is independent from any institution or organisation – political or otherwise. We do not accept donations from them to ensure our autonomy.
This is a call to action. Come along and help us create this project.
“The government does not owe the people education for the simple reason that one does not owe the people what it can take for itself. And education is like liberty: it is not given, it is taken.” (Jacques Rancière)
