Kebele General Meeting
Mar 7 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

The Kebele General Meeting takes place every 2-3 months at the social centre. If you come to/use Kebele you are welcome at this meeting!kebelecommcoopIt is an opportunity for the wider Kebele community and users of the building/facilities to come together to discuss:
– recent decisions by the Community Co-op, any new proposals, and get an update on Kebele’s finances.
– any urgent matters relating to Kebele, be they practical (the loo is leaking!) or political.
– review any recent events at Kebele, and discuss any forthcoming event requests that need wider approval (or not).
– there is sometimes a political discussion for a part of the meeting.

u_r_invitedThe actual Agenda is posted on the wall in the Kebele cafe, and emailed out to our volunteers list. There is usually cake and/or snacks, and hot drinks, available.

Find out more about Kebele – read OurStory. Note that the Kebele social centre is formally owned & managed by Kebele Community Co-op – the GM is an opportunity for the wider Kebele community to hold the Co-op to account, find out more about Kebele, discuss any urgent and/or relevant issues, and volunteer to help with ongoing matters (cleaning, maintenance, cafes, outreach etc) and at any upcoming events. So get involved! New volunteers wishing to become Co-Op members are always welcome!!!

Bristol Solidarity Network meeting
Mar 8 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Now’s a good time to join the network! We have regular meetings every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. We meet 7.30pm at Kebele Social Centre.

What we believe…
Faced with relentless attacks on our quality of life from bosses, landlords, authorities and politicians, it is easy to give up the fight, keep our heads down, and accept that this is just the way things are.
Bristol Solidarity Network is determined to show another way, based on principles of solidarity and shared struggle. We are a group of local people committed to sticking together to overcome common problems we face. We can make real changes for the better through concerted, collective effort and direct action.

The story so far…
Since starting out in 2013 we have successfully accompanied workers and tenants to win their struggles against profiteering, bullying bosses and landlords. From putting a stop to management harassment and families being forced into homelessness to forcing bosses to pay stolen wages and a slum landlord to do the repairs, we have chalked up some solid victories. We have clearly seen the strength of working together to pile on the pressure. Solidarity is our best defence and direct action gets results!

Get involved!
If you share our ideas of getting organised to get used to winning, get in touch! We have regular meetings that are open to all who share our ideas and aims. We want to make sure that the solidarity network is open, accessible and welcoming. We have strength in numbers and as the network grows, so will our ability to win more victories!

CAPE infonight
Aug 4 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Community Action on Prison Expansion (CAPE) to stop further mass incarceration in the U.K. through the development of a mega prison in Wellingborough.

Private company Kier is being paid £143 million to build the proposed prison, which will lock up over 1600 people.

Wellingborough is one of the areas most affected by job losses and other impacts of austerity. Whilst Kier has promised the prison will bring in new jobs, the introduction of exploitable prison labour is likely to threaten the jobs and wages of the local community.

Kier is profiting off exploitation of people in cages, most of whom will be working class; disproportionate numbers will also be Black and Brown, LGBTQ, and/or disabled.

We say: stop building prisons, let us build support for our communities!
