The Secretary of State for Justice Ken Clarke has tabled an amendment to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill to criminalise squatting in residential buildings. This will be debated in Parliament on Tuesday 1st of November, possibly for up to three days.
Make sure you come down today to discuss plans and action to oppose the governments plans which would aim to put an end to projects like the Okasional cafe as well having huge impacts on homeless and vulnerable people squat as the only way of avoiding rough sleeping.
Whatever they say, squatting will stay!
October the 1st 2011 will mark one year since the Kraakverbod made
squatting illegal in the Netherlands. However, hundreds of people still
squat and will continue to squat. With squatting in the UK coming under threat, join us to hear 3 squatters from Amsterdam talk about squatting before the ban, resistance to the criminalisation and what’s been happening since the Kraakverbod became law.
Followed by bands at 9pm (check the poster) and a chance to discuss how in Manchester we can oppose the criminilisation of squatting.
