The National Trust – Blood on their land.

The National Trust “manage” over 618,000 acres of land and 775 miles of coastline. They like to portray just how lovely and scenic our countryside is. And if you check-out their website you’ll see their stance on illegal hunting. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/article-1356392992041?campid=social_twitter_organ

Hmmm….. Why don’t they just claim it’s the Easter bunny who lays these mythical trails. Anybody with the slightest clue about hunting knows that “trail hunt” is a myth, it’s a lie created by hunts and the Countryside Alliance following the ban on hunting in 2004. Do not confuse trail hunting with legal drag hunting.

The past couple of weeks or so has seen the National Trust once again come under a lot of scrutiny. Firstly following a hound that fell to its death in the lake district, the hound was then buried under a pile of rocks by the Melbreak hunt. The National Trust say this wasn’t on their land, nevertheless the Melbreak are a hunt that the NT licence to “trail hunt” on their land. How can they trust the hunt to not be doing this on NT land? The Melbreak have in fact recently already been under police investigation for illegal hunting.

The next incident that infuriated National Trust members was an attack on hunt monitors and sabs, once again in Cumbria and suprise suprise again by one of the Countryside Alliance C.E.O Tim Bonners favourite hunts The Melbreak. An elderly hunt monitor was threatened with violence by the Melbreak hunt supporters just prior to an assault on the sabs leaving the sab with injuries and a trip to hospital via ambulance. The police arrested the culprit, and the National Trust suspended the licence of the Melbreak. FANTASTIC …… Oh wait they gave the Melbreak their licence back just 24hrs later, claiming the attack wasn’t on National Trust land. So violence is all well and good if it’s not on your land. Then the story broke regarding the Cury hunt who were a Nation Trust beach, Church Cove, Gunwalloe near Helson when hounds rioted allegedly “attacking” an elderly couple and chasing the couples dog. The hunt admiited to this who their version of the event sounds like a fairy tale. http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/national-trust-faces-backlash-for-allowing-hunt-on-its-land-after-attack-on-beach/story-30066896-detail/story.html

You see, it seems like the National Trust do actually support illegal hunting, violence and attacks on the public and their pets, and the responce we all get when we raise this with the NT is the same nonsence. Their stance on illegal hunting (as seen above) is as farcical as the myth known as “trail hunting.” All this and we’ve yet to even cover shooting on National Trust land…..

It’s not sinking in with the National Trust that this is not acceptable. We think the best thing would to be to speak a language they do understand and hit them in their pockets.

  1. This is why I stopped contributing to the NT until they stop supporting this so called sport, they won’t get any of my money. Wake up and smell the coffee NT

  2. I will not support or visit National Trust properties until the National Trust bans all forms of hunting and other bloodsports from their properties.

  3. As a Trust member I find their policy on hunting unjustifiable, and indeed thoroughly reprehensible. Think about it – they are allowing people with a history of violence towards other humans and towards wildlife onto their land, often with motor vehicles and terriermen, and doing so because it’s “traditional”, under a fig leaf of trail hunting, when everyone knows they are pursuing wildlife. And they say that if the public see illegality they need to ring the disinterested police force, some of whose officers go out with the hunts in their spare time. And the Trust rely on reports from the hunts themselves for monitoring – yeah right. And finally they seem to regard illegality off their own land as somehow irrelevant, as though hunts become instantly respectable and legal on crossing an invisible boundary. They are so far out of kilter with public opinion on this that their position is totally unsustainable – in fact they appear to be going out on a limb to hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil regarding the hunts, almost as if they have an overwhelming internal dynamic pushing them to collude with hunting as closely as they think they can get away with. It’s a disgrace and they need to sort it out now.

  4. I have never joined the National Trust, owing to their tolerance of hunting on their land. A lot of others feel the same way.

  5. I’m completely finished with the NT following their “non-involvement in hunting on their land —-support yourselves from now on!

  6. I emailed NT today as I was going to join, but wanted to get their veiw on what happen in Cornwall before I parted with my cash. After reading this I am not expecting more than their stock reply, so I will be keeping my hard earned cash. I also enquired as to their view about the disposed of by hound in North Wales their reply was it wasn’t on their land.
It’s the government’s fault as most of the Tories support hunting especially the pm they should just ban it instead of leaving the usual loopholes. There should be a referendum on this issue.

  7. I resigned as a member of the National Trust when they would not state their opposition to badger culling on ‘their’ land. I had only been a member for a few years, having been convinced that they would have changed from the time of my youth when they leased some land to a farmer who ploughed it, destroying a large group of white hare-bells in the process (I had never seen before, nor since, any white Harebells). This tacit acceptance of hunting on NT land has confirmed my opinion that they are only interested in income and not in ethics, nor conservation, nor protection of heritage.

  8. I was disgusted when I discovered that the National Trust allows Hunts to use their land. The law that allows trail hunting is a farce! I doubt if anyone is naïve enough to believe that foxes (and other wildlife)are not hunted…they are, and under the guise of trail hunting!!

  9. the National Trust have been letting the nation and our wildlife down since the ban was introduced!… they have responded to all our messages of concern with a shabby copied & pasted response, which implies they wash their hands of any responsibility in bringing the perpetrators of all the recent atrocities to justice!… they are quickly losing the support of the majority of 84% of the public who are outraged by the hunts criminal offences and cruelty to wildlife as well as their lack of care and complete disregard, for the welfare their own hounds!if the NT are supporting this blatant disregard of the hunting Act and failing to do their duty. I would encourage people to support the Woodland Trust instead, as the prohibit hunting and respect wildlife!

  10. since becoming aware of this situation a few years ago I have not visited any of their buildings, which is a huge shame as I love architecture, I just dont think looking after our architectural heritage, which is extremely important, has anything to do with fox hunting. Ultimately, this kind of stance really lets down all of the hard working volunteers and visitors

  11. It has long been known that the National Trust has let the nation and our wildlife down since the ban was introduced!… they respond to all messages of concern with a pathetic copy & paste response, which illustrates a total disregard of those voicing concerns. in no way do they accept their responsibility nor do they bring perpetrators of all the recent atrocities to justice!… they are quickly losing the support of the majority of 84% of the public who are outraged by the hunts criminal offences and cruelty to wildlife as well as their lack of care and complete disregard for the welfare their own hounds!

Their actions imply NT support of those who blatantly disregard the hunting Act … they are complicit and failing to do their duty! I would encourage people to support the Woodland Trust instead, as the prohibit hunting and respect wildlife!

  12. I was shocked to hear the Trust allow hunts on their land – completely unacceptable in the modern world. Must be a few toffs on their council blocking any action so they can get off killing our wildlife. I was thinking of leaving them a legacy but they can forget that now.

  13. Was a trust member up to a few days ago. I did not even cross my mind that they would be allowing hunting (by turning a blind eye) and shooting, so I didn’t even search for the facts. Feel completely duped by them. Their responses worry me greatly, they are quite clearly scared of, or run by, the hunting fraternity.

  14. To all Sabs and monitors out there please keep records of breaches by the hunts licensed by the NT and post them on NT Facebook page. The NT is liable in law as an accessory to a crime Under The Serious Crime Act 2007,and under the Hunting Act 2004 if it carries on licensing hunts that have broken the Hunting Act 2004 and it is AWARE these breaches have occurred so keep posting. The National Trust is also responsible for the safety of members of the public under The Occupier’s Liability Act 1984. If it allows hunts to put the public at risk it can be sued in the event of harm to the public. Please post any activity by hunts that are putting the public at risk.

  17. I donate to the league against cruel sports and am also a NT membrer. My dear wife and I have just discovered
that NT allows hunting on its land ……this rather shocked us …..love going to the cliffs and old properties but now
I think that we must support our conciences and leave the NT…..sorry.

  18. I was just on the brink of becoming a National Trust member but I’m waiting to hear what the decision is on fox hunting on their (our) land. I’m very concerned about the reports of illegal hunting and violence directed at sabs and monitors.
