The River Wye – the great river which flows for 150 miles from mid Wales through to the Severn Estuary – and past the site of the Green Gathering – is under threat on a number of fronts.
One of the main problems is caused by farming, with the influx of phosphates and nitrates from fertilisers and livestock waste causing algal blooms and havoc with the river’s ecosystem. A lot of this is chicken shit with some 10 million chickens contaminating the Wye and its tributaries, but also from dairy farm slurry.
And then there’s the shitshow of the sewerage discharges.
