Court challenge to legality of Brighton arms factory adjourned

Appeal of R v Nero.

UPDATE: Case adjourned to consider voluminous expert report. It will be relisted later in the year. Thanks to all who offered support.

Smash EDO campaigner Jessica Nero will challenge her conviction of aggravated trespass in a Lewes appeal court  with evidence of the unlawful activities of  EDO MBM Technology Ltd, a subsidiary of US owned arms giant ITT Exelis Inc. (NYSE: XLS)

Her conviction resulted from a peaceful blockade of EDO’s factory on 26 April 2011, carried out with others to draw attention to the activities of the bomb parts maker.

EDO is based at Emblem House, Home Farm Road, Brighton, and supplies military aircraft weapons system components that are used to assist the release of illegal cluster munitions, support western and allied war crimes, arm authoritarian regimes around the globe, and kill, injure and traumatize countless civilians.

Unlawful or otherwise, at a time of  grinding austerity measures where lives are being lost to homelessness, every tax penny spent on military equipment in the purported interests of ‘national security’, steals welfare resources from the poor, and damages the human security of us all.
