school for marie
Apart from the first two years at Infant School from the ages of 3 to 4 years old, spent in La Rochelle where we were living at the time, Marie completed the rest of her primary education from the ages of 5 to 10 years old in Périgny at the local school of an average town and grew up with the same children: a small, quiet town, she had kind and well-brought up school friends, and there too she benefited from the calm, serenity and care which are a source of stability.
She was an excellent pupil, always top of the class in every subject and had already gained notoriety amongst her friends and did not go unnoticed. However, she did not seek out admiration or play at being the leader but, as one of her former classmates recently reminded us, in each class she attended, her presence and her comments did not escape notice.
After school, like all little girls of her age at that time, she went to ballet classes, but she did not really enjoy them (she was not particularly sporty) and this activity only lasted a couple of years. On the other hand, in her music lessons which she started at the age of 6, she immediately felt at ease: she therefore started to learn to play the flute when she was 8 and played for 10 years with the same teacher who she got with so well that over the years she became a kind of confidante.
Irene her music teacher was there on the day of her interment to accompany her with the sound of the flute to her final resting place.
