ASU Police Logic: Can’t staff the campuses with Officers? Create a Lieutenant position, hire internal, promote another Officer to Sergeant

asu police logic no staffingNever underestimate the stupidity of the people holding leadership positions at the Arizona State University Police Department. The department is still…

ON A 5 YEAR 24 HOUR SHUFFLE STAFF AROUND FROM ONE CAMPUS TO ANOTHER ROUTINE TO HAVE SOME BOOTS ON THE GROUND

How many years has this been going on? This is the primary job for ASU Police command to successfully hire and retain staffing and they fail miserably year after year…

Chief Michael L. Thompson, you mean to tell the public, the Arizona State University community, that you can’t manage the few officers at the department with 1 CHIEF, 2 ASSISTANT CHIEFS, 5 COMMANDERS, 20 SERGEANTS, 5 CORPORALS so now you NEED LIEUTENANTS?

I thought the creation of the new lieutenant position was a joke being circulated about how top heavy our department already was. They were serious! Unbelievable.

A police lieutenant position for ASU PD? Has Chief Michael Thompson lost his freaking mind again?

The damn campuses need boots on the ground, i.e., cops patrolling all four campuses NOT another layer of “fat” added to an already bloated ASU PD command staff!

The ASU PD continues to struggle every day to staff all four campuses with boots on the ground cops!

And NO, Dr. Morgan R. Olsen, police aides are NOT a substitute for police officers.

Yes, Thompson must be losing his mind to expand command when the department can’t staff campuses. Even Pickens wasn’t this out of touch and that’s saying something!

    • BurningheapofFail says:

It’s mismanagement 101. Moving officers around from campus to campus just to be able to say there was an officer at a campus for a shift. That’s the reality when the think tank of asupd decides to create a lieutenant position. It’s only a question of who do they want to empower and pay more money?

  3. ASUPDsmokeNmirrors says:

A useless command position that does nothing to keep the public safe from the criminals who are shooting, robbing, and raping Arizona State University students. Everything Mike Thompson has done since he took the chief job has been for public relations. This lieutenant position insulates him and the rest of command from doing less work than they were already doing.

    • BurningheapofFail says:

They really don’t care. It’s not hard to figure out the problems with the PD.

  4. BurningheapofFail says:

Fucking idiots. Three steps in the wrong direction. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how much workplace misery occurs from having a house full of supervisors, having nothing to do,constantly stepping on each other’s toes, and making more work for the few officers on patrol. Give me a break.

  5. Twocents says:

The way they run the department never makes any sense. Command is looking for more people to do their job for them.

  6. Embudo says:

Don’t worry- none of us will get promoted.

  7. yurhuckleberry says:

It’s difficult to say this move is for helping the community at large when you’ve shown you can’t staff the campuses with officers for how long now?

  8. DL500unit says:

Chief Michael Thompson is doing the exact same thing Pickens did. More and more supervisors, same or less officers. How is this an effectime management plan? It’s so bad it’s almost funny.

  9. RUkiddingMe says:

Create more supervisors who don’t do shit, but allow you to pay friends more.

    • theintegrityreport says:

That’s what they do. 0% increased safety, more money wasted, more supervision for the few they supervise.
