This time there’s a video featuring even more embarrassment for ASU Police Chief Mike Thompson and the University administration. It may be hard to believe, but Chief Thompson is speaking the truth about Stuart Ferrin and the the Ore arrest.

So basically you had an officer well on the way to being another one of the Orr boys. He was doing all of the things Thompson talked about prior to the Ore incident and nobody did shit about it. Nobody batted an eye until they needed to go back and change the record to justify present termination. More corrupt asupd administration bull.
So according to Thompson, if supervisors were doing their jobs Ferrin would have been in thin ice prior to this incident. Instead Sergeants on up to the chief didn’t do anything about the behavior he describes and they had to keep reshuffling the deck to get a winning hand. So, ethics, law, thin blue line, fairness, integrity, honor, justice, flub, flub, flub…lies.
That’s what they do, free passes for the one’s they like, discipline paperwork for the one’s they don’t.
As I understand it, nothing Ferrin did ever resulted in discipline. In fact, He said that his complaints were all unfounded or exonerated. And as for POST, they don’t do their own investigations; they just use the info provided by the agency, whether it is truthful or not.
I have never seen anything less than a six month suspension and he got a 4 month time served suspension. Seems like POST thought it was a bunch of BS too.
Mike Thompson had the perfect opportunity to gain the respect of the troops and do the right thing and instead he showed what a true COWARD he really is.
It’s so obviously contrived how they do business. One of their newbies was overly enthusiastic about jumping on every slight infraction and earned them unwanted attention. Once that happened they had the task of justifying a termination to appease their far lefty political bosses. It was very clumsy, comical, and showed their true colors. This is an example for new officers about how little ASU will support you against some waning public opinion, despite you following the law. Unfortunately, any media flare up will destroy your law enforcement career at the ASU Police Department.
The inconsistent stance on Ferrin in a nutshell that is Chief Thompson’s head. When they went back, started new internal affairs “investigations” on previously resolved issues, changed dispositions on old’s the administration of ASUPD showed just another example of having no integrity. Gilbert PD probably took that into consideration when ASU Commander Lou S was trying for a supervisor job and said, No thanks, we don’t need that here.
How hard did Gilbert command laugh at Lou Shickalielie when he tried to escape ASUPD? He’s a pathological liar and sociopath when it comes to his brothers in blue.
@ popo39machine…I heard they laughed pretty hard. His resume of make believe police work and supervision at ASUPD showed itself to be somewhat lacking in the real world. He was cut from the process right away.
Maybe the solution is to have another awards ceremony and award one another accolades to dress up the resumes? The word about them is out, nobody will hire them. All they have to do is look at the mess they created at ASU.
The only person who adjudicated this case in favor of the liberal university anti-Ferrin stance was the private eye the university hired. Giant conflict of interest. Every official federal and state resource acquitted him. As a police officer, Mike Thompson should have made an ethical choice, instead he made a political one and this tape proves it.

Ferrin was the university scapegoat for the lack of management and leadership at ASUPD. Firing him for issues THEY THEMSELVES cleared him on showed their complete absence of a moral code and incompetence in managing a police department.
ASU set up the investigation by a private eye after every official government investigator contradicted their desire to be politically correct.
This is the same kind of kangaroo court justice dictatorships set up all around the world. What an example, for a place calling itself the New American University, to live up to! Very intellectual.
My confusion is increasing with ASU, ASUPD, AZPOST, and the State of Arizona. When ASUPD hires a new lateral or cadet they are sent through an intense background check to expose any integrity issues. The new hire is then either sent to the ALEA or takes the AZPOST exam. When the new hire successfully completes the academy/exam they enter the FTO program where the new hire is put through a gauntlet of unrealistic expectations. These unrealistic expectations are either documented truthfully if you were cliquish or falsely if you were not.
Ferrin made it through the academy with the approval of ALEA, AZPOST, ASUPD, and ASU which are all entities of the State of Arizona. Ferrin also passed the FTO program, and if utilized properly, is designed to train, improve, and mold a new hire into becoming a successful/legit law enforcement officer.
This is where my confusion comes in. Ferrin was either excepted by the clique or not which determined if he would successfully pass the FTO program and I believe he was excepted because he had a family member working in dispatch. If Ferrin was such a troubled officer why was he not disciplined to help correct the issues he supposedly had? I know Ferrin was molded into the officer he was at ASUPD by the clique and he was supervised by the clique and I believe ASTON was his last supervisor. He was set up for failure the minute he was hired whether the clique excepted him or not because you can never succeed when you sacrifice your character for power/success which the clique has been doing for years.
So who is at fault for the Ferrin debacle? The answer is all of the above. They all were responsible for Ferrin’s evolving into the officer he became. If ALEA believed Ferrin was having trouble they should have been able to eliminate him from the program without being influenced by Pickens.
The way I see it Ferrin is a victim in this mess because he was influenced by the clique with absolutely no proper supervision or discipline to correct his deficiencies.
The clique is the creator of all the problems at ASUPD and they are enabled by ASU, AZPOST and the State of Arizona. The irony of this debacle is all of the above entities know about the others corruption and nobody does anything to eliminate the corruption.
If you do not understand my confusion then you must read a study Harvard University conducted on state by state corruption (http://ethics.harvard.edu/blog/measuring-illegal-and-legal-corruption-american-states-some-results-safra) and to my amazement (sarcasm) ARIZONA is the most corrupt state in the country. My confusion has been solved. The problem with corruption in law enforcement is it never lasts hence LAWSUIT!!!
You are right! They are incapable of policing themselves because they are more than willing to overlook their own corruption. We all took the same oath of office, but some broke that oath and are discraced.
If you do wrong we will hold you accountable whether you are a member of the public or our current police command staff.
Neither is capable of policing itself, but I have more faith in our public.
Only a small percentage of the public are responsible for our calls, but 100% of ASU police command are responsible for the workplace disfunction and corruption.
Nobody needs to wonder and everyone knows why there’s a blog titled, “The Integity Report on the ASU Police Department”.
Thompson, you are actually worse than Pickens. I don’t know how ABOR can continue to ignore the liability and failing business model of these morons. The campus isn’t getting safer and the police supervisor staffing keeps increasing for what end? They don’t make the campus safer and increase the cost of policing by sitting at desks doing admin exercises.

I’ve seen many management examples over the years, never have I seen one so often at odds with its own employees as the one at the Arizona State University Police Department.
The leadership is leadership in name only. It created a disjointed workplace where cronyism is the defining principle and duty to public safety are given lip service only. How many lies do you think Thompson’s command have told Crow, Olsen, and general council since this incident?
How many lies are they telling now? Does anyone have more tapes of Thompson? I’m sure everyone would like very much to hear what type of man is in charge of the police department.
I heard from a reliable source there is approximately 1000 hours of recordings that will be submitted into evidence and the videos are now evidence as well.
From what I was told the audio recordings are of the entire clique which includes non-defendants of the lawsuit. These idiots better hope they were not recorded committing any civil rights violations while making one of their standard bogus arrests without PC. Wait, this is a law enforcement agency and it is almost impossible to make an arrest without PC (sarcasm again).
Can you imagine if the plaintiffs have indisputable evidence on a series of bad arrests in multiple crime categories? It will bring every single arrest the department made into question and open ASU/ASUPD up for thousands of lawsuits and the officers up for criminal charges. I hear the idiot who moved to Texas could be indictable as well. Maybe he should start looking for sympathy by fake limping like Thompson did when he asked for a Gilbert police car to be parked in front of his home.
What do I know, ASU will defend themselves by saying the bogus arrests were an “arbitrary exercise” just like they addressed the recent AZ Republic article regarding the death of students on the campus boundaries.
How will the families of former, current, and most importantly future students react when all of these civil and criminal offenses appear in the national media? I’m thinking negatively.
Is it a scandal or more accurately a conspiracy ASU/ASUPD is involved in? I believe, on a comparative scale, the exposure of the above offenses and more will have the largest negative impact a billion dollar corporation will have experienced since the Enron scandal. I hope for ASU’s sake their attorneys are skilled in damage control.
It is unfortunate ASU and ASUPD did not listen to the good advice provided to them by several veteran officers they hired and abruptly ran out of the department. I guess that is what happens when a mind is corrupt, the corrupt mind can not accept moral advice because being a moral person is impossible when the person chooses an immoral path in life.

You can call ASU PD command many things, but a successful management example wouldn’t be one of them. As a collaborative failure, it would have fell apart a long time ago if it wasn’t for the hard work of a small base of competent staff at the bottom. The turnover and costs of the continual retraining of new staff exceed any city agency in Arizona. It’s not their money, so what do they care?

I don’t think Thompson lies to Crow. I believe he gets his Marching Orders from Crow and is too weak to stand up for what is right. He knows if he does, he will be out of a job.

Most of the staff at the ASU Police Department are good hardworking people, but as you go up the chain you increasingly see a disregard for ethics and integrity. Keep it up guys!

Having been affiliated with ASU, I find both the content and comments on the blog quite accurate.
It’s a wonderful thing, you guys have been putting them on notice since September 2013! When you come into work and see them nervous you know somebody is holding them accountable. We all should be held accountable, not just the troops on the ground.
