According to a Department of Justice study, Arizona State University is short about 60-plus police officers based on the current student population.
As an alternative to higher education within Arizona, I would highly suggest attending either the University of Arizona or Northern Arizona University. Their student to police officer ratio is more in alignment with the DOJ recommendation for public universities. That in turn should translate into a safer campus environment for your child or loved one.

Why is this happening?!? The Arizona State University spends more on the administration of the ASU Police department than the patrol of the department. The organization is a upside down pyramid shell game. Officers are stretched so thin we can only function in a back to the wall reactionary status.
If that isn’t bad enough we have people getting burnt out by the micromanagement of the most immoral pieces of shit in leadership any man in uniform has ever seen. We now have 2 supervisors on Administrative leave, Lieutenant Latella and Sergeant Deveney.
Why? Because an officer smarter than both of them combined and infinitely more humble caught them in too many lies. Too many ASU Police supervisors habitually lie. Will Thompson’s command continue to cover for them? Liars have no place in the honorable station of being a police officer.
Chief Thompson is such a corrupt piece of shit he targeted the officer as well for months and now put him on administrative leave. Way to go…..Chief, just like Pickens.
The ASU POLICE command clique has been targeting employees like Mansfield for quite some time now. They do the same routine over and over again.
1. Create a team of compromised supervisors around the employee to create a false narrative about their performance.
2. Sudden trumped up write ups, one after another to try and justify termination.
3. Ignore law, policy, procedure, and replace it with prejudice, malice, and intent to injure another person’s career and family.
Almost as big of a problem as the failed leadership are the people who stand around witnessing the behavior, treatment, and do nothing about it.
They will punish the officer whistle blower on their inability to be ethical and will fudge the paperwork to exonerate the 2 supervisors unless they’re forced to do the right thing.
Chief Thompson is dirty, just like Chief Pickens’s was. Pickens carefully selected corruptible individuals around him who were willing to act immorally.
He selected individuals who believe what they do is acceptable, because they were following orders. Thompson fits in all too well.
Chief Thompson had his moment. He had a chance to really turn the department around. What did he do? He copied the homework of former Chief Pickens by getting into bed with the problem and failed the employees of ASUPD and the ASU community.
We are interested in learning more about this unprecedented move of putting two ASU Police supervisors on Administrative leave. Respond in secret with an unused name, but same email address and it will not auto publish.
What about the ecstasy ring at Vista Del Sol? Or the drive by shooting at West Campus? Or the police impersonator at Barrett? Or the pervert swim coach molesting swimmers at Mona Plummer? Or the off campus bike theft ring that ASU PD refused to investigate? Everyday I come to work makes me want to punch myself in the face repeatedly for working here. Maybe Pickens had it right…..working at McDonald’s is probably a better career choice then ASU PD.
There are so many losses with the ASU Police management clown show that it’s hard to keep track.
There are so many things, so many times. How many times did detectives sit on crimes, suspects, but not submit charges? 1000’s of victims and no justice.

Having enough police officers on the campuses for safety should be a priority for Chief Thompson and his command staff. And not having that police presence reflects poorly on him as head of the university’s police department.
Chief Thompson’s primary concern is holding on to his position that makes him think he’s invulnerable, answers to no one, and can do whatever he wants.
Chief Mike Thompson has absolutely no clue what he’s doing. He turned his job responsibilities over to Pickens’s morally defunct command.
I hear from someone up there that Thompson is in over his head, sometimes checked out, wants to delegate everything under the pretense it absolves him of liability.
Staffing is a nightmare at ASUPD.
How many things need to happen for people to realize that much of the crime is encouraged by a lack of police staffing, no presence, no fear of capture, no fear of prosecution? It’s bullshit, because like another poster said, it is unsafe.

You left out former ASUPD Officer Dan Gaughan who quit and went to Tempe PD. He was a part of the group that made ASUPD such a lousy place to work everyone not a part of the group was looking to get out of the pd.
ASUPD command is directly responsible for the lack of police officers on all campuses; hence, the unsafe campuses university-wide.
Patrol numbers will NEVER notch up until the current command and some mid-level supervisors are permanently removed from the police department.

You mean the crimes that involve students or student organizations on or very close to campus? You must be a command staffer if you don’t understand that. Remember that there are Phoenix, Mesa and Glendale campuses too; not just Tempe. Wait… you forgot about the other campuses, definitely one of them.
