N.U.T. Teachers’ Strike 26th March.

If you’re a teacher and you’re striking tomorrow, good luck and solidarity!

If you’re a teacher, not in a union or in a different one and you’re thinking of crossing a picket line:

  • A. Don’t
  • B. No one wants a scab, your pupils will lose all respect for you.

If you’re in the N.U.T. and you’re thinking of crossing a picket line:

  • A. Don’t.
  • B. What are you fucking thinking of? Don’t you know there’s a war on!
  • C. What sort of example are you setting the youth? Selfish, cowardly, treacherous…

If your children have a scab teacher, keep them home:

  • A. This is about more than just the future of their education but about resisting the ravages of this despicable neoliberal regime.
  • B. This is the most important lesson they will ever learn, don’t scab.
  • C. Forcing them to cross a picket line before they are old enough to understand the enormity of betraying their class is child abuse.

If you’re at school and you’re old enough to think for yourself (hint), join the picket line, show some support, one day others will do the same for you.

Join a march or rally

Solidarity, and a bit of fun.

iwwlogo-buttonOur fellow workers at Gainesville’s local food cooperative, Citizens Co-op, announced The Citizen Co-op Workers Unions in early March.

A couple of days letter they brought their demand for union recognition to the board during a meeting, and a few days ago they met with the General Manager.

By unionizing, the workers want to ensure that the patrons of the store are promoting a business that respects its worker-owners and operates in a fair, democratic, and truly cooperative manner.

7 of 10 Citizens Co-op Workers petitioned to have a union. In response Citizens Co-op fired 5 of them and 2 of them are now on strike because of Unfair Labour Practices.

However, it seems Citizens Co-op might be hiring scabs. They have advertised the position of a current Worker Rep on the Board and Workers Union member: http://gainesville.craigslist.org/fbh/4385258888.html

We are asking that every IWW member and supporter immediately apply for these positions regardless of your location or qualifications.

Thank you for you help and Solidarity!

Statement from KRAS-IWA and other internationalists against war in Ukraine.

WAR ON WAR! NOT A SINGLE DROP A BLOOD FOR THE “NATION”!

The power struggle between oligarchic clans in Ukraine threatens to escalate into an international armed conflict. Russian capitalism intends to use redistribution of Ukrainian state power in order to implement their long-standing imperial and expansionist aspirations in the Crimea and eastern Ukraine where it has strong economic, financial and political interests.

On the background of the next round of the impending economic crisis in Russia, the regime is trying to stoking Russian nationalism to divert attention from the growing workers’ socio-economic problems: poverty wages and pensions, dismantling of available health care, education and other social services. In the thunder of the nationalist and militant rhetoric it is easier to complete the formation of a corporate, authoritarian state based on reactionary conservative values and repressive policies.

In Ukraine, the acute economic and political crisis has led to increased confrontation between “old” and “new” oligarchic clans, and the first used including ultra-rightist and ultra-nationalist formations for making a state coup in Kiev. The political elite of Crimea and eastern Ukraine does not intend to share their power and property with the next in turn Kiev rulers and trying to rely on help from the Russian government. Both sides resorted to rampant nationalist hysteria: respectively, Ukrainian and Russian. There are armed clashes, bloodshed. The Western powers have their own interests and aspirations, and their intervention in the conflict could lead to World War III.

Warring cliques of bosses force, as usual, force to fight for their interests us, ordinary people: wage workers, unemployed, students, pensioners… Making us drunkards of nationalist drug, they set us against each other, causing us forget about our real needs and interests: we don`t and can`t care about their “nations” where we are now concerned more vital and pressing problems – how to make ends meet in the system which they found to enslave and oppress us.

We will not succumb to nationalist intoxication. To hell with their state and “nations”, their flags and offices! This is not our war, and we should
not go on it, paying with our blood their palaces, bank accounts and the pleasure to sit in soft chairs of authorities. And if the bosses in Moscow,
Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Simferopol start this war, our duty is to resist it by all available means!

NO WAR BETWEEN “NATIONS” – NO PEACE BETWEEN CLASSES!

BOOK NOW for Breaking the Frame: a gathering on the politics of technology. May 2nd – 5th at Unstone Grange near Sheffield.

You can book via – our website here – either on the form there or you can download a booking form to email/print and post.

We are committed to making sure that no-one is excluded for financial reasons, so we are subsiding places to make sure the gathering is as cheap as possible. There will be childcare available during the daytime so parents can fully participate in the gathering.

About the gathering:

Together with Scientists for Global Responsibility and Corporate Watch, in May Luddites 200 is organising a gathering on the politics of technology. The Breaking the Frame Gathering will bring together campaigns on the technology politics of food, energy/climate/environment, the military, work/economics/austerity, the internet, civil liberties/privacy, health and gender etc, as well as trade unionists, radical scientists, artists and developers of alternative technologies.

The basic idea behind the gathering is to create a network that can support people’s work on issues connected to technology. Being linked with other organisations facing similar challenges will help strengthen your campaigns, and may give you a broader perspective on your issues. It will also help create a new critical mass to challenge the forces that many groups are trying to fight in isolation.

We want to overcome the fragmented single-issue, reactive approach that dominates the way we deal with technology. Technology is a major force shaping the whole development of our society, including the issues you work on, yet we never have a democratic debate about it until it’s nearly too late, e.g. when Monsanto starts putting GM soya in our food. We think it’s time for a much more systematic and joined-up approach to technology that overcomes the democratic deficit in this area.

We need to develop a new approach, based on bringing together the insights of different campaigns and movements, sharing skills, and learning from each other. The need for a systematic approach to technology is more urgent than ever as we face environmental crisis caused by 200 years of industrial capitalism, whilst new technologies threaten to massively re-shape our society.

For more information about the gathering, please take a look at – our website We are also on Facebook at ‘Breaking the Frame’ and on Twitter at @framebreaking. You can reply to this email or contact us at

Security Thought Experiment, from Riseup.

Imagine you just found out a member of your project is actually a police informant. What project resources do they have access to? How will your group go about locking them out and protecting yourself? Is there any one person who could bring your project to a halt because they are the only one with certain passwords, access to mailing lists, or databases? Is there anyone who has access to a lot of data who doesn’t need it? (Which isn’t to say they are suspicious, but that a good security practice is limiting access only to people who need the information.)

Are there any changes you could make right now that would make an informant less of a problem?

For sure, this kind of thing seldom happens, but the more prepared we are, the stronger our group will be, and the more trust there can be between the members of the group.

Frack Free Solent March Newsletter and public meeting 15/03/14

FFS_001Here’s a roundup of what’s been happening locally, plus upcoming Frack Free Solent events for March.

Don’t forget to check our website for up to date info, news & more.

Markwells Wood

We are regularly monitoring the site at Markwells Wood, Forestside – a few hundred yards north of the T-junction here  – https://goo.gl/maps/qJSPq .

The oil & gas exploration site is owned by Northern Petroleum (50%), Magellan Petroleum (40%) and Egdon Resources (10%) with NP holding operator status on the site.  With their planning permission for further exploration renewed until March 2015, we believe Northern Petroleum will be investigating the possibility of hydrocarbon extraction using fracking.  We have spoken to many local residents, who are very concerned at the prospect of having an industrial fracking site on their doorstep – despite the best attentions of Northern’s PR firm taking many of them out to lunch, sending presents etc.

Frack Free Solent is organising a public meeting for local residents on Saturday 15 March from 10am – 12pm at Forestside & Stansted Village Hall (just opposite Christ Church, on the road to Stansted Park – http://goo.gl/maps/oD3QG Please pass this information onto anyone living locally who would be interested in finding out more about what fracking could mean for the area.
