London Anarchist Black Cross is a prisoner support group. The current members of the group are also prison abolitionists. We are opposed to the prison system and we encourage people to write letters of support to those inside, whether or not they are anarchists. We can also offer help with campaigns if you have one going or know of others who do.
On our blog we have a list of prisoners who have asked to receive cards and letters of support, as do other ABCs in Bristol, Brighton and Leeds.
No-one can write to a prisoner without a prisoner number; some prisoners have their name and prisoner number public on the blog whilst others have chosen to have friends and supporters forward all mail on to them through a c/o address. This is to avoid getting letters from right wingers and other people whose attention you might not want.
If you’d like to keep your prisoner number private but don’t have a suitable care of address then we can publicise you on our blog with our postal address, forward mail on to you and keep your prisoner number private.
You might also want an email address that people can write to that is administered by your support group or us. If you’d like any more information please do get in touch.
Our email is firstname.lastname@example.org
and our postal address is
c/o Freedom Bookshop
84b Whitechapel High Street
Please pass this on to anyone you think might need it.
Donate to London ABC!
We always need money, the majority of which gets spent on postage and when possible, sending postal orders and stamps to prisoners who are low on funds. We also need cash for printing costs, such as flyers and prison guides.
We welcome any donations, no matter how large or small; both money and stamps are always useful to us. If like us, you don’t have much cash then you could always organise a benefit or bake sale for us. If you do it in London then we will usually be able to help out and we can always publicise events on our blog.
At the moment you can donate to us care of Freedom Bookshop (see address above).
If you are outside of London, and don’t want to use paypal or send stuff in the post then get in touch with us at email@example.com and we can figure something out.
A big thanks to everyone who has donated or raised money for us so far.
Many, many thanks go to Acoustic Insurgency, the Anti-fa Ceilidh crew, Kingston defendant support, Rob, Freedom Press, and the mighty Colorama crew, as well as everyone else who have given donations. Cheers Folks, x.
PS. We have recently (May 2012) decided that we will be passing on 10% of all money donated and raised to LARC. The London Action Resource Centre is where we hold London ABC meetings and is a fantastic collectively run space. We feel as a group that this is one way we can show our appreciation and make sure that there is a radical venue for this group, and others to share.
