Gratitude

I was made aware of the difference between gratitude and thankfulness about a year ago.  I’m sure this was explained to me before…but a year ago I paid attention.  Maybe I just needed reminding.  You can’t store awareness.

Being grateful, it was explained, has action to go along with it.  You can say you are thankful for your dog, but when you show that you are truly grateful…you bathe him, give him an extra treat…take him for a walk…play with him.  In other words you truly love him and spend time with him.  You can’t store awareness.

One of the other things I’ve been taught is that I not only should list and work on my defects, but keep track of my assets as well.  Keep track of what I’m doing good and bad so if the good list shrinks this can also make me aware that something is not right.  You can’t store awareness.

So making a gratitude list is a way of listing some of the good things…not necessarily my assets, but at least good things going on in my life.  Things I can be grateful for….so here goes and I’m going to try and list 5 more every time I post (in other words this list is a start not a complete work).  This is also a good thing to write down…so we can do it again later and look back at the changes.  You can’t store awareness.

1. God

2. God’s word.

3. My salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

4. AA.

5. Church.

Now the test…I’m saying I’m grateful for these….but is there action otherwise I’m just thankful.  You can’t store awareness.
