Gratitude – Obedience – Discipline

In the August 27th reading in the AA “Daily Reflections” the writer says “I will allow a wave of spiritual union to connect me through my gratitude, obedience and discipline to this Higher Power.”  There is another acronym that points to God.  The others being Gift of Desperation, Group of Drunks, Good Orderly Direction.  These last you can tell where contrived, made up, thought of.  I think the one in the “Daily Reflections” for today was unintentional.

It made me think.  There are degrees on a scale…

If we are thankful this is a good thing, but once we begin to put action with our thankfulness we can learn gratitude.

If I have obedience out of fear of consequences, this may keep me on a good path.  But obedience out of love…now I have something.

This all leads to discipline…not the discipline given some by the law or probation or jail…but the discipline of worship.  Worship that becomes more than an ethereal, mystical, only on certain days kind of worship.  But worship that becomes practical 24/7….helping others, growing spiritually, and striving to be thankful and grateful in all things.
