The Spectre notes

“The Spectre”

Organisation:
In “The Spectre” we believe that our way of running should be based in a horizontal and rotational form, according to the collective ethos that the paper holds.
There will be two meetings, one held on the 15th and the second, on the 3rd day of the month. The newspaper will come out on the 7th of every month. A facilitator and a secretary will be assigned for every meeting, as well as an editor and sub-editor for the upcoming issue. These positions are rotational and every single member will have the possibility to hold these roles. The first meeting is open to all. On the first meeting a roundtable will be held to review the previous issue and to distribute tasks, create sub commissions and review the tasks of every member for the next issue.
A follow-up at the second meeting will review the tasks of all members and comment the content, layout and other matters presented by the editor and the sub-editor of the upcoming issue. The second meeting is open to all, with the possibility for non-members to contribute, although final decisions will be made by the committee (members-only).

Ethos:
“The Spectre” is an alternative, independent and radical newspaper concerned with current events, which publishes topical articles that are both analytical and opinionated. We strongly believe that the views held on this paper should represent an alternative voice to the non-contextual and less analytical mainstream newspapers. Secondly, “The Spectre” is a commercial-free, independent newspaper that isn’t tied to any political party line. It doesn’t rely on external funding, hence it’s entirely run by its contributors and members/donations. In addition, readers heavily influence how we print and how we work within the organisation. Thirdly, the Spectre is a radical newspaper that questions authority, criticises the current status quo and is committed in supporting emancipatory struggles. Furthermore, the newspaper seeks to unite local movements by acting as a platform to further talks and discussions in a horizontal manner.

Fundraising:
“The Spectre” is an independent newspaper and relies on member’s contributions and donations for its existence. Ideas for fundraising and promoting the newspaper were to rent venues, set-up gigs, poem nights, screening films and documentaries, selling books, clothes and second-hand stuff. Plans include inviting speakers and setting up roundtables.
A bank account will be set up, with the possibility of renting a mail to prevent having to direct the address to our own homes.

Blog:
The blog will contain the continuation of the articles, including additional updates on these and recent events. Commentaries to the articles and events are welcomed and encouraged. Events for fundraising, social movements and other interesting happenings will be endorsed. Moreover, links to interesting articles and alternative sites are welcomed by any member or contributor.

Distribution:
The distribution of the newspaper in the printed format will be done at a local level in bookshops, stands, fairs, etc. Further promoting the newspaper, college, institutes and art workshops will be involved in the distribution process. A stall will be made in the town centre and at the university squares after the released date. The distribution of the online format will be possible by contacting us and with the condition of sending a second issue to a friend or relative
