Sack Andy Coles campaign relaunched with new leaflet and protest at Peterborough council meeting on 25 July

Andy Coles, Tory councillor for Peterborough, infiltrated the animal rights movement as Andy Davey in the 1990s.

The Sack Andy Coles (SAC) campaign has been relaunched with a new leaflet which explains the truth about the Peterborough councillor and former spycop  Andy Coles. The previous leaflet was delivered to every home in Coles’ Fletton & Woodston ward in 2017 and again this year. The new leaflet is up to date, more informative, and will have wider distribution.

The Peterborough Conservative Party has rallied behind Coles despite the disturbing revelations which have emerged about his deployment as an undercover police officer. He had an abusive and deceitful relationship with a young activist  who says she feels she was “groomed by someone much older, and far more experienced… I was manipulated into having a sexual relationship with him. I didn’t even know his real name.”

As well as being a councillor, Coles was also Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire. He resigned three days after his sordid past was exposed but has clung on as councillor. Coles could not continue without the support of his party, so SAC is widening the fight and will be leafleting wards represented by his fellow tories. This began on the afternoon of 11 July when leaflets were delivered to over 1,000 homes in  Orton Longueville, where there is a by-election on 2nd August with the Conservatives defending a majority of just 120 votes.

On Wednesday 25 July there will be a demonstration at the next meeting of Peterborough Council to demand the resignation or dismissal of ex-spycop turned Tory councillor Andy Coles.  Meet outside the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1HF from 6.00-7.00pm.

In May 2017 it was revealed that Andy Coles infiltrated the peace and animal rights movements from 1991-95 as Andy Davey. He was a member of the disgraced secret Special Branch unit called the Special Demonstrations Squad. While undercover he began an intimate relationship with a 19 year old activist named Jessica (not her real name).  He lied to her saying he was 24 when he was really 32 and married.

On Monday 19 March the Undercover Policing Public Inquiry finally confirmed that Andy Coles was a spycop. The same day Coles gave an interview to the Peterborough Today website in which he attacked the people he spied on as “some of the most committed and violent animal liberation extremists operating in the UK in the early 1990s,” without giving any evidence to back his claim. Then he went further by accusing Jessica of lying, dismissing her accusations as “lurid.”

Show your disgust at Andy Coles’ actions and join us in calling for his resignation or dismissal. Come to the demonstration, bring banners & placards. Make a noise about it on social media. Talk to your friends.
