El Ateneo is a squatted anarchist social center and library in the Brasil neighborhood of Santiago, Chile. Last year we had the privilege of staying at el Ateneo during our trip through South America. By luck we stumbled upon the squat after trying to find an occupied university during the tail end of the student uprising there. Things were too hot at the school with an imminent fight between communist students (who wanted to end the occupation) and anarchists and ultra left students (who wanted to continue the strike) so we were referred around the corner to El Ateneo.
