Clarification of ‘Grandparents for a Safe Earth’. Our original members were grandparents but we were soon joined by elders who had no descendants. Our common feature is that we are elders.
AIMS:
To leave a safe climate for all future generations. To encourage disinvestment from fossil-fuels and to encourage investment in renewables and energy efficiency.
Objectives
- To raise awareness about the enormous dangers and urgency of climate breakdown.
- To advocate an economy which respects the finite nature of the resources of the earth.
- To seek dialogue with relevant businesses and governments regarding our concerns about climate breakdown and where this is not forthcoming to use nonviolent direct actions, including civil disobedience, to draw attention to these issues.
- To put pressure on organisations and governments which are damaging the earth and its life-forms.
- To work at reducing personal and collective fossil fuel use.
- To liaise with other organisations/groups with similar aims and objectives, and organize joint events and actions.
- To keep ourselves up to date with current developments and thinking on climate breakdown issues.
- To monitor and evaluate our campaign regularly.
If our aims and objectives resonate with you and you want to set up a similar group in your part of the world, write to us via this website’s Contact Us page. You should confirm that your group adheres to our aims and objectives and wishes us to accredit it as a part of the GfaSE network. When we agree the request, you can proceed to call your group Grandparents for a Safe Earth (name of geographical locality). Each group is then entirely responsible for the work it does, with no liability falling upon us.
If a network of small groups develops and a system of co-ordination appears to be needed in order to make our efforts more effective, we can consider between us how that co-ordination may best be set up. In the meantime, let us encourage one-another by sharing information about our efforts to work for a life-sustaining Earth for our descendants.
