”We, the Squatters Network of Brighton, have called for an International Squatting Convergence to claim a space for creativity, community and co-operation. This will be a weekend built around sharing skills, building campaign support and facilitating open discussion.

As much as Mr Weatherly, among others, would like to portray this convergence as a display of anti-social behaviour, it’s exactly the opposite and will be a social occasion where everyone is welcome. We are ready to show that if our voices are not listened to when we speak of our rights, then perhaps it is time to shout. Only through grassroots organising can we effect real change.

And so, on May 17th, Brighton will become a hub of ideas and a vehicle for action. People with views on a wide range of different campaigns, based in the UK and abroad, will get a chance to discuss with one another and organise.

So whether you are an arms dealer, a squat evictor or an immigration detention centre, YOU will be subject to scrutiny by the people. Our society is bigger than yours.
