Saboteurs given Harassment Notices despite no evidence
April 2015 Saboteurs given Police Information Notices despite no evidence
On 2nd April 2015 PC Alison Barnes asked two sabs to attend voluntary interviews.
Atherstone Hunt member Luke Smith made allegations that he was pulled off his horse by a saboteur. Senior Investigating officer PS Matt Trott puts an arrest warrant out for the saboteur despite having no evidence from the hunt to back up the claims. Saboteurs put out footage of the incident showing what really happened – Luke Smith trying to ride saboteurs down with his horse and assaulting them.
PS Trott then issues the two saboteurs with a Police Information Notice (Harassment notice) – despite no evidence from the hunt and despite there being video footage disproving the allegations.
The two saboteurs had to get their MPs involved who wrote a letter to the Chief Constable Simon Cole asking him what exactly was going on? The PINs were overturned and Leicestershire Police were forced to issue a rare apology to both saboteurs who also said the PINs had been misused and shouldn’t have been issued
