On Wednesday August 17th we were waiting for news from Llandudno magistrates where Flint and Denbigh hunt huntsman Robert Medcalf was to for his first hearing after being charged under the hunting act for illegal hunting 2 foxes at a meet of the Flint and Denbigh hunt in early January 2022.
We then received an email from a local reporter informing us he was at the court but the case against Robert Medcalf had been withdrawn. That’s all we know about it at this point as we’ve not heard from the police nor the Crime Prosecution Service.
This was just one of numerous investigations carried out by North Wales Police last season, after we’d filmed the Flint and Denbigh hunt pursuing foxes on a regular basis, we’d go as far as saying that in our opinion this case wasn’t even the strongest we’d put forward to the police,
On the day in question the Flint and Denbigh hunt were relentless and blatantly trying to hunt foxes, they’d started at Kinmel Estate and work their way back through Glas Coed, Cefn Meiriadog and Bontnewydd. In the footage we’d submitted to the police it shows 2 foxes fleeing the hounds who were in full cry and the sabs intervening. We also had footage of huntsman Robert Medcalf blowing his horn hunting on the hounds. We gave statements and even a member of public came forward after seeing the foxes flee. It’s obviously a disappointing outcome but it’s the furthest we’ve ever gotten. The Flint and Denbigh hunt have never previously been charged under the hunting act. And with cub hunting about to start we are in no doubt it’s only a matter of time before we are submitting more evidence against these wildlife criminals.
