Another reminder of ASUPD’s refusal to properly and fairly discipline employees

Just another reminder of ASUPD's refusal to properly and fairly discipline employees.

Another shining example of the “Orr’s Boys” clique that has done so much to undermine the mission of the Arizona State University Police Dept. so it could operate like a street gang with fellow employees.

While the Arizona State University Police Department continues to lose both new officers just off their year probation, as well as old salty veterans to other departments, ASUPD has dusted off an age-old retention strategy:

The internally generated retention internal affairs (IA) investigations.

This post goes out to all of our brothers who escaped with their careers intact, and also to those who have been aggressively targeted by ASUPD command for “retention IAs”. The department leadership is desperate to retain officers at all costs and has no intention of fixing the moral issues plaguing the department. We addressed this issue in a prior post regarding the arbitrary nature of punishment at ASUPD.  It is the first of many posts aimed at addressing the double standards within ASUPD, and how they are directly affecting the department’s ability to retain employees.

We are tired of the double standards and the unwillingness to change. Petty punitive actions against some employees (while favored ones commit policy and criminal violations regularly) only make us fight harder and dig in further. We are not going away. We will keep pressing forward with The Integrity Report until the issues discussed here are resolved, or the people that have created them are removed.

To those that have stood by and have refused to act, either out of malice or cowardice: we ask that you take the time to read your oath again; read it and honestly ask yourself if you have honored it.

Are you surprised by the corrupt good old boy way this department is run? We're not.

Are you surprised by the corrupt good old boy way this department is run? The vast majority of it’s employees are not.

The retention IA’s are disgusting. Officer flight risks are targeted aggressively and their special pets who don’t leave are not. The retention IA’s show the same lack of consistency, fairness, honor, and integrity our command is know for. Their little pets, featured in the photos here, can do whatever they want without consequence and it’s no secret anymore.

In the previous post on Pam’s parking habits you mentioned quite a number of serious issues that have been known about and administratively ignored. They should go to legal council and talk with them about the liabilities of their corruption problem.

I guarantee the chief’s boss contents himself with the chief doing his own internal informal reviews, calling them investigations, and keeps saying thumbs up A OK.

That’s where the meat is at. The vastly different standards. Another thing for ASU civilian administration to be acutely aware of and ignore.

Thanks for continuing to roll out the hits. Dan’s look in the second photo is priceless! More attention needs to be focused on the retention IA’s, despicable behavior for sworn. ASUPD command; expect the minimum standard and get significantly less.

Can anyone please tell me why these guys insist on being in uniform rubbing their genitals on each other? The fraternities do the same thing. Instead of being brothers to other officers they treat everyone else like competing fraternities.

The retention internal affairs don’t happen on this fraternity because they aren’t going anywhere. Nearly all of them have tried and failed. Misery loves company that wants to leave. It needs to feel superior without being superior.

It wants the appearance of dominance without being dominant, and lashes out against others when they know there’s no retaliation. Unproked hostility against someone who has no defence is the textbook definition of a bully, a coward.

For the department, it’s one of the many obstacles for new officers staying, nobody wants to play reindeer games and be treated unfairly because they are outsiders. That’s cronyism. Because this issue has been known about and fostered by Pickens, it’s another issue of corruption within the agency.

Hahahahaha! It’s a shame they won’t have time to IA their friends portrayed here, or do a so called inquiry. What a joke.

These faux Ia’s they’re doing to exonerate the chief’s pets and fuck over people trying to leave really just piss everyone off and prove the need for an employee blog.

When you poison people who are on the fence and who start off optimistic how is that helping the agency and the people we serve.

  5. ASUPDsmokeNmirrors says:

Oh the humanity. I’m sure the chief and command are taking this very serious, especially since a commander and their friends are featured in these photos and the other ones you put up here:

Do you think they can finally start doing some real IA’s on their friends and show some equality, fairness, and standards? There’s always a first time, let’s not be pessimistic.

When you have two groups of state employees working for the same department operating under two completely different standards of accountability what could possibly go wrong?!? Oh wait, did I mention it’s a police department?

  7. DontLOLmeJP says:

Oh my god this is hilarious! Are these all the photos? Are you guys holding out on us? You know nothing will come of this as usual. Nothing except for the inevitable witch hunt and random retaliation on suspected parties adding to the never ending cycle of morale implosion.

This is a police department that needed to grow with the university to maintain a safe environment and it hasn’t. The out of control crime friendly environment has had plenty of negative press and is the direct result of a police department that has 11 million in expenditures without officers on patrol. The chief’s previous university had the same problem. Chief Pickens uses a lot of money to insulate himself with a army of supervisors to manage a handful of people.

The press hasn’t covered the cause, but it’s only a matter of time. The Arizona State University Police Department is an organization with a cancer that not only prevents it from growing, it’s killing it from the inside. The new officers see the toxic environment and make plans to leave as soon as possible. It’s a natural reaction, like sympathetic vomiting.

The university administration along with the management of ASUPD are in a dangerous denial phase that endangers increasing amounts of students coming to ASU for a safe college experience. They come here not knowing what dangers are waiting for them because ASUPD is still struggling with a staffing crisis that’s been going on for years. If you deny the problems and pretend they don’t exist you will never fix them. The ASU administration believes it’s pride is more valuable than the lives and safety of it’s students and it will eventually become public scandal.

As much as I enjoy watching the firearms SWAT wannabe photos of this post and the previous one you touched on a good topic, what you call “the internally generated retention internal affairs (IA) investigations.”

Most of the people pictured here in these two photos tried to go to other agencies and failed. Maybe they are a little bitter about other officers potentially getting out and succeeding and respected agencies?

The reputation of the Arizona State University Police Department is mud in the eyes of law enforcement in Arizona. The truth is getting out about the lapsed integrity within this agency. You should do an entire post on the retention IA games alone. It’s a subject of interest for many of us at the agency and it would explain the greatest threat to the careers of incoming employees coming here.

I would like to take this moment to ask a question to Chief John Pickens, Assistant Chief Mike Thompson, Ass Chief Jimmy Hardena, all the commanders except Luigi, to the featured and unfeatured clique members, to Kevin Salcido.

Why is it so difficult for you treat people with basic respect, the way you want to be treated? If you did this nothing here would be possible. Every workplace has it’s issues, but ASUPD is ridiculous.

There is no will to fix a problem because the chief, salcido, and the bosses above them won’t acknowledge any problems on any level. You had opportunities to improve the department and you failed miserably at every turn. At least it’s amusing for some to what you do the same thing over and over expecting different results.

For me it’s different. I think of the lack of services we are able to provide, the talented people we drive away, the waste and excess that castrates our mission and I’m disgusted. I’m disgusted because there are victims who wouldn’t be victims if we had the leadership, people, morale, and material support to do our jobs effectively. Shame on all the oath breakers and buddy fuckers who made this possible.

  10. RUkiddingMe says:

Such a joke. Professional standards for everyone but these guys. I want to see the so called IA they do on this where all their friends exonerate everything they do and pretend there are no conflicts of interest. Ethics? Nope, not here.

  11. JustTheFacts says:

This is very funny, no doubt about it. I have no pity for these guys, they made their beds.

  12. yolo says:

It looks like the DON’T ASK DON’T TELL policy failed again! If these guys were half as good as they think they are our pathetic can’t pass shooters might get up to 210 on the new AZPOST qualification.

  13. Doneson says:

The little jerk on the left, Aston, has spent a career going out of his way playing the gotcha game trying to bring punitive actions against other officers. Him and Orr on the far right prefer the IA tool to damage an officer’s career and keep them from succeeding where they have failed.
