Callout to resist the G7 summit in Germany in 2015

On June the 4th and 5th 2015, the Group of Seven (G7) will be meeting at the castle of Elmau in the Bavarian Alps. There the Heads of State and Government from Germany, the USA, Japan, the UK, France, Italy and Canada want to consult on foreign affairs and war policies, world economy, climate, and ‘development’ issues. The representatives of the richest and most powerful countries in the world lay claim to decide the fate of the entire world, without having any legitimation for this. The G7 politics means neoliberal economic policies, war and militarization, exploitation, poverty and hunger, environmental degradation, and the closing-off towards refugees.

CALL TO ACTION AGAINST THE G7

On June the 4th and 5th 2015, the „Group of Seven“ (G7) will be meeting at the castle of Elmau in the Bavarian Alps. There the Heads of State and Government from Germany, the USA, Japan, the UK, France,Italy and Canada want to consult on foreign affairs and war policies, world economy, climate, and ‘development’ issues. The representatives of the richest and most powerful countries in the world lay claim to decide the fate of the entire world, without having any legitimation for this. The G7 politics means neo-liberal economic policies, war and militarization, exploitation, poverty and hunger, environmental degradation, and the closing-off towards refugees.

A multitude of individuals, organizations and political parties from varying spectra and convictions won’t let this summit commence undisturbed.

We will stand our ground against the politics of the G7 with diverse and creative, open and determined action, demonstrations, blockades, and rallies directly by the castle as well as a mass rally and counter-summit in Munich. Get involved, come numerously, join us!

Fight the G7 policies:

-Get rid of the free trade agreements TTIP, TISA and CETA – the world is not for sale

-Against militarization and war – stop the wars by NATO states

-Open the borders for all people – solidarity with migrants and refugees

.-Stop the exploitation of mankind and nature – regain the natural basis of life from profit driven economy

-Against cutbacks in the social system – make the corporations pay for their own crisis

-Stop watching us – against surveillance society and the dismantling of democratic liberties

We regard the mobilization against the G7 summit as part of the diverse protest movements for social justice, for the preservation of the natural foundations of life, for peace and universal human rights. Therefore we fight alongside the Blockupy movement, the anti-war movement, the anti-racist movement, the struggle for better living and working conditions, and the protests against environmental degradation.

Opposing the DPRTE arms fair in Cardiff

On the 8th of October, DPRTE – “The UK’s Premier Defence Procurement Event” was held in Cardiff’s Motorpoint arena. A demonstration had been called by Stop NATO Cymru, Anarchist Action Network and South Wales Anarchists to oppose it, starting at 8.30am to coincide with the start of delegate registration, when the those buying and selling weapons and toys of war would be entering the arms fair.

Several times people managed to get very close to the entrance before being kicked out by security, giving the delegates a piece of their mind in the process. At around 9am 3 men in suits entering the arms fair were covered in red paint. Two people were arrested and subsequently kept for 12 hours. They were both charged with criminal damage for staining the suits.

Food not Bombs Cardiff gave vegan breakfasts to passers by and the demonstrators. Food not bombs are a group who draw attention to food waste, and also the absurd fact that under capitalism we can afford to go to war but yet so many are going hungry and in many parts of the world people are starving to death.

The arms industry benefits from perpetual war that has become the norm. Arms dealers make money from the deaths of innocent people. They came to Cardiff, a city that had a small taste of what it is to be in a militarized zone with the NATO Conference coming to south Wales just a month ago. If DPRTE come back next year people will be there to oppose them again. We don’t want these dangerous psychopaths in our city, buying and selling weapons that kill people.

Protesters continued to have a frank exchange of views with delegates at the fair for the remainder of the day.

Timeline of actions during the NATO conference

During the course of the week of action a diverse range of actions were taken by many different groups and individuals. Here is a summary of what happened:

Friday 29th August – Stop NATO camp set up at Tredelgar park in Newport
– BAE systems attacked with fire in Filton and vehicles torched at army cadet base in Bristol as acts of resistance against NATO

Saturday 30th August
-Mass march and radical bloc against NATO in Newport

Wednesday 3rd September – Activists hand in a demand for the arrest of NATO leaders to police in Newport, based on evidence leaked by Chelsea Manning of war crimes.

Thursday 4th September – No to Nato March on Celtic Manor from centre of Newport and mass demo against the NATO dinner at Cardiff Castle

Friday 5th September – Activists again try to present evidence of war crimes at Newport police station

Saturday 6th September – Solidarity demonstrations outside Newport Magistrates Court in support of Barclays occupiers.

The struggle continues

Last week we saw a diverse struggle against NATO in Cymru. Marches against NATO in the streets of Newport and Cardiff; actions against the forces driving war in the banks and the securitised zones; workshops and discussions at the camp about connected issues from Gaza to police repression at the camp; people spreading the word in a hundred different ways, from conversations with locals, to the camp, to the web. But the struggles against capitalism and militarism are not a one-day, or even a one-week, event. The actions taken this week by Stop NATO Cymru, the Anarchist Action Network and other organisations are a small part of building up a movement capable of bringing about radical change.

So, when we look back, does it make sense to ask whether we “succeeded” in the week of action? We think it does. If one more mind went beyond the distortions of the mainstream media because of what we did, then yes we ‘succeeded. If one more pair of feet was spurred onto the streets by what we did, then we succeeded. And if one more pair of hands joined with ours, yes, we succeeded. In the coming struggles, those hands will again pick up the tools to take action, until the last drone is smashed. We hope to see you there.

NATO summit Day Two – Affinity groups take action

On the second day of the NATO summit Stop NATO Cymru and Anarchist Action Network called for affinity groups to take action against NATO and militarism in whatever way they saw fit.

At 3pm a group of about 40 people occupied the Barclays Bank in Newport High Street. Four people glued themselves inside the branch and the branch was shut for the rest of the day. A press release from the group reads:

“Palestine solidarity and anti-NATO campaigners have occupied Barclays Bank on Newport High Street this afternoon. The activists are calling for
Barclays PLC to divest its shares from Elbit Systems, the Israeli drone
manufacturer which produces unpiloted aircraft used to attack people in
Gaza. Barclays owns almost 60 000 shares in Elbit.

Protesters are cheating ‘Stop Arming Israel’ and singing ‘Barclays divest
from the Arms trade’. Three protesters have glued themselves inside the
bank.

Israeli armed drones carried out 851 Strikes during the last attack on
Gaza. In response Palestinians are calling for investors to pull their
money out of companies, like Elbit, who are responsible for manufacturing
these drones.

The occupation has been timed to coincide with the NATO summit. Elbit’s
drones are also used by NATO members. The company is part of a partnership
manufacturing the Watchkeeper drone for use by the UK military.

Michelle Horton, one of the occupiers inside the bank said, “Elbit’s
drones are used to carry out horrific war crimes in Gaza. We are here to
stand in solidarity with people in Gaza and to persuade Barclays to get
rid of their shares in Elbit.”

Four people were arrested just after 5pm.

Later today another affinity group went to Newport police station and demanded the arrest of Barack Obama for war crimes. They pointed to evidence leaked by jailed whistleblower Chelsea Manning.

MASS ACTION – Besiege NATO at Cardiff Castle: Thursday 4th September at 6pm.

On the first day of the NATO warmongers’ summit we are calling for a mass action to besiege Cardiff Castle where Obama and all the rest of them will be having their banquet.

Cardiff Castle, a symbol of imperialism, is playing host to an armed alliance of imperialists intent on using their military power to dominate people and resources. They view us as collateral damage or cannon fodder.

Arrive at 6pm. Bring banners, sound systems and rage against NATO. Get as close to Cardiff Castle as you can and gather wherever you find groups of like minded people who oppose NATO.

Wear black in solidarity with the victims of NATO attacks and wear a mask to protect yourself against police surveillance.

Keep watching anarchistaction.net for updates before and on the day.

In addition to the mass action, for the duration of the summit we are calling for people to form groups and take whatever action they can to disrupt the summit.
